Hey Guys Im just gettin into the steelhead game and have been watching the rivermouths to see if I could spot any running up but havent been able to. Is it common to see them comming through the mouths? Also I was wondering if anyone can enlighten me to some of their behaviors, like do they school up and wait for the river to first break and all run up at the same time? do they run with the high tide? Ect...

Thanks for any input

I don't fish for steelhead, but if you are in the Santa Cruz area try stopping by The Anglers Choice Tackle Shop. It's on 41st street just before the oneill surf shop. Talk to Mark the owner. He is a super nice guy, fishes for steelhead and will be able to point u in the right direction.

steelheaders are a tight-lipped bunch.

the one fisherman I ran into on the river felt it was a slow year.

Isn't the season now closed for fishing on our local rivers?

Cripper... short for "crippler"... as in one who is crippling the population of stealhead by fishing out of season.

All in good fun... no harm done, right?

BTW, you probably would have been fine (not that it's OK)... I haven't seen a DFG warden on the rivers around here in years... :(
