Good for you.
Long ago, I decided I needed to get my Karma sorted out and started removing trash from the beach after every fishing trip. It is indeed amazing what you find out there. Half full bottles and cans of beer are common. Full cans are not unusual, especially near the Seascape entrance (though its often really crap beer). I have found some pretty pricey unopened bottles of wine, too. The best find was a message in a bottle. Really. The bottle had just washed up on the sand near Rio Del Mar. The note inside was written on Hyatt Kauai hotel paper. I contacted the kid who sent it on its way through his mom's e-mail ( provided on the note). It had made its way from Kauai to Monterey Bay in about 4 weeks. The most common item for me is plastic. There is a LOT of that stuff on the beaches.
Sadly, most people don't seem to notice litter. Worse yet, are the folks who "tut-tut"about the litter and walk on.
Each year, I remove about 200 lbs of trash this way. If just 10 members of the Board took 200 lbs of trash off the beach every year ( it really isn't that hard) that would be a whole ton that won't end up in the ocean. That's nothing to sneeze at.
