Greetings to all. I spent one day on the Lower river, then two on the Upper river above Lake Shasta last week. The weather was amazing, a bit bright for the Upper Sac, but the trout on the lower river did not seem to mind the bluebird skies. They were very busy looking for salmon eggs drifting below the redds as is typical this time of year.
We fished glo-bugs on the lower river, caddis and mayfly nymphs on the upper. We were hoping for evening hatches of the October caddis on the upper, but it was pretty meager and we got no dry fly action.
Here is a brief slideshow, then a quick video of the end of my encounter with a beautiful 19" rainbow. I was very fortunate to hook up with three fish around this size in the two days I fished.
